A 54-percent successful newsletter
The season-ending press conference is as close to a layup as you get as a sports executive, which is what made that Mariners debacle so freaking funny.
I wrote the first draft of this column on Wednesday, the day after the most tone-deaf press conferences by any pro-sports executive that I can recall in 30-plus years of covering Seattle sports.
Nathan Bishop – a tremendous writer in his own right and gracious reader of this newsletter – was nice enough to give it a read. I held off on publishing it, though, and I’m glad I did. My initial version was angrier than appropriate. A bit too caustic, lacking the humor that is more appropriate given how badly Jerry Dipoto botched what should be a fairly simple exercise.
