A truly gut-wrenching victory
I won't ever joke about a Huskies loss making me sick again given what happened after last Saturday's win over Oregon.
I wouldn’t say that Saturday’s game made me sick.
When Oregon’s field-goal attempt on the final play drifted wide right, I was as wildly happy as I’ve ever been at a sporting event in my 48 years of human existence.
I hopped up and down. I hugged strangers. I (eventually) walked down to the edge of the stands, hopped over the railing and didn’t so much rush the field as amble onto it somewhat sheepishly.
I woke up on Sunday morning at the Renaissance Hotel with a sore throat and a headache, which I assumed it was because I had shouted so darn much. I tested negative for COVID on Sunday, the day I flew back to New York. By Monday I felt thoroughly unwell and Tuesday night I tested positive for COVID, which I mention to assuage my guilt for not posting earlier.
