Cry me a river, bozo
My favorite NFL reporter passed along word that "multiple" coaches and executives are unhappy with the officiating mistakes in Seattle's regular-season finale. The Dang Apostrophe investigates:
I don’t know about you, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the sixth and final game of the NFL’s “Super Wildcard Weekend.”
People who are better than myself, more compassionate, felt a degree of sympathy watching Cowboys kicker Brett Maher miss four consecutive point-after tries. I’m ugly on the inside, so I was increasingly entertained by the agony that was on display and overjoyed to hear the Cowboys owner say afterward the team wouldn’t be looking for a new kicker, Jerry Jones said, because “he’s done enough good ones.” Can’t wait to see how that pans out next week in California.
But in addition to the kicking shenanigans, I got to watch Tom Brady turn in an utterly limp performance. Hey, it’s not often you get to see an all-time great quarterback stick around long enough to see him attempt 66 passes with an arm that is so obviously not up to the task. I’m such a sicko I went and counted just how many of those passes traveled farther than 10 yards downfield and came up with 17. To think you give Kirk Cousins trouble for checking down.
But then I remembered that Brady has never been one to accept the limits that others impose on him, so maybe he’ll come back for another season in which he is even more obviously unable to throw downfield. It was at this point I realized that for the third time in four offseasons, there is going to be an annoying amount of conversation about what exactly Brady might do. This depressed me so I looked for something to entertain me, and managed to find … this:
Oooooh. One of my least favorite reporters writing about officiating? I’ll bet this is going to be full of unsourced opinions and sensationalized by adjectives.
