Gone Fisching
Jedd Fisch wasn't my first choice to be Washington's new coach, which is probably a good sign given my tendency to be dead wrong when it comes to college coach forecasts.
Jedd Fisch was not my preference as the next Huskies coach.
This was not because I was unfamiliar with the work he’d done in resuscitating Arizona over the past three seasons. Nor was it a lack of familiarity with the path that he’s traveled as he moved up the coaching ranks, working for Pete Carroll, Jim Harbaugh and Sean McVay among others. In fact, I was covering the Seahawks for The Seattle Times in 2010 when Fisch served as the quarterbacks coach in Carroll’s first season with the team.
When it came to coaching Washington, I was concerned about the quality of defensive staff Fisch would be able to assemble. Still am in fact, especially since Johnny Nansen – his defensive coordinator at Arizona – had already bolted for Texas. The one thing I’m worried about as Washington moves to the Big Ten is the Huskies’ defensive fortitude.
So what am I going to do now that Fisch has been hired as Washington’s head coach? Well, hope like hell that I’m an idiot, which in my experience, is not an altogether terrible bet.
