Here's hoping the Thunder get stiffed
Fifteen years after he ripped the Sonics out of Seattle, NBA owner Clay Bennett is looking for another sweetheart deal for an arena. Here's hoping he has a fight on his hands.
I think the good people of Oklahoma City are getting rogered but good.
I think they are being led by the nosehairs into subsidizing their professional basketball franchise in a way that is out of step with what other NBA franchises are getting from the cities where they play.
I think the citizenry should rise up as one and scream, “Hell no!” to the coterie of politicians who’ve crafted this sweetheart deal to finance a new NBA arena. Hell, I’m willing to pay for former Seattle City Council member Nick Licata to fly to town, read his poetry at city council meetings and talk at length about how little he thinks an NBA franchise means to a city.
Of course, I’m not speaking as a neutral party here. I have a deep, fiercely tended dislike for the Oklahoma City Thunder and anyone who draws any bit of happiness from its existence. I hope that team is a perpetual disappointment, a source of unending pain.
