How about we just all enjoy this?
THIS is what we all hoped to see from Jarred Kelenic, and instead of wondering what took so long or speculating how long it will last, I'm just going to go ahead and watch it.
THAT is what we expected from Jarred Kelenic.
Aggressive on the base paths, his stolen base forcing a throwing error that got him to third with no outs in the fifth. Confident at the plate, smoking a single to right with two outs in the sixth to score Ty France. Athletic in the field, his full-extension diving catch to save a run in the eighth inning. It’s hard to say Kelenic won the game by himself considering that Luis Castillo didn’t allow a base runner in the first six innings, but man, was Kelenic fun to watch. Again.
And THAT is the Kelenic that I doubted we would ever see given the results from his first two years in the majors when he hit .163.
Now, I didn’t give up on him though I can understand why it may have sounded that way this spring when I declared, “I’m not doing this again with Jarred Kelenic.” What I meant was that I wasn’t going to use his spring-training performance as an opportunity for the wishful thinking of what it would mean to Seattle if he were to become a star.
And honestly, I’m still not at the point where I want to talk about that. I am, however, thoroughly enjoying watching Kelenic play baseball.
