In defense of skepticism
I have a strong opinion about the new defensive coordinator my school hired, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I am not excited about the defensive coordinator my alma mater hired.
In fact, “unenthused” might be the most euphemistic way to describe my reaction to Steve Belichick being named the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington. While I admit that my opinion is largely superficial given how little is actually known about Steve Belichick, this ignorance is at least partly the result of a conscious effort on his part. He has resisted any forms of meaningful public inquiry in the same gruff and snorting manner his father has displayed over the years, and this is one of the things that I think could pose a problem in his new role with the Huskies.
The fact I remain unconvinced on the merits of the hire will result in some fellow Husky fans seeing me as a lesser fan or believing that I somehow want my school to struggle in some way because it will validate my misgivings. This is silly, and I think it says much more about the cycle of fan behavior over coaching hires than my fandom. There’s nothing wrong with my skepticism.
