Let us never speak of this again
The Mariners scored two runs in the final 23 innings of a teeth-gnashingly frustrating three-game series against Cleveland.
The Mariners were not expected to have a particularly good defensive infield. In Wednesday’s loss to Cleveland it was comically bad.
The first baseman lost the ball on the transfer before he could throw home. The second baseman and shortstop collided trying to go for the same grounder. The backup catcher twice failed to corral a third strike, allowing the Cleveland hitter to reach first.
I’m not sure it would have made a difference in the outcome. The Mariners didn’t hit (again), and wound up getting shutout for the first time this season, and in the spirit of that performance I’m going to get through this edition of “Three Up, Three Down” as quickly as possible and then we shall never speak of it again:
