LIV from the apocalypse
No one is talking about LIV Golf, which is exactly what the people bankrolling this circuit were hoping for.
LIV Golf held its second event last weekend, its first in the United States. You probably didn’t see it, though. That’s because no American network is broadcasting it.
Did you know that Branden Grace won? Do you know Branden Grace?
Now, normally, this would be a terrible sign for the long-term viability of an upstart promotion like LIV Golf. Except there is nothing normal about LIV Golf. Not in terms of its mission nor in terms of its business plan, and the fact that the event didn’t generate more headlines is probably exactly what the funders were hoping for.
The primary goal of LIV Golf is to encourage investment and involvement with Saudi Arabia. This is not some secret. There is a freaking Web site called Vision 2030 spelling out the plan, and judging by what has happened in the two weeks since the inaugural event in London, that plan is working.
