Live and let LIV? Not me
The tonal shift in the discussion of the Saudi-backed pro-golf circuit suggests a distinct lack of spinal fortitude in the American sports-media industry.
I would not categorize myself as a pro golf fan. I am aware of pro golf, but mostly follow the majors. I honestly don’t care that much about the PGA Tour either as a business or a television entity.
I am fascinated by the introduction of and reaction to LIV Golf, however. It’s a chance to observe — in real-time — the pliable nature of morality and the power of money. It’s a lesson in international business but also global politics. There are famous athletes involved, and some fans feel conflicted while others are fed up at being asked to consider the larger implications of what they want to watch. Like I said, I’m fascinated.
