Lock, stock and two smoking barrels
Seattle's backup QB piloted the team's longest drive of the season to pull out a victory that was very necessary when it comes to playoff positioning.
The Seahawks were 6-7 entering Monday’s game against the Eagles, and I would have estimated their playoff chances to be equivalent to the likelihood that Drew Lock would guide Seattle 98 yards in the final 1:52 to score a game-winning touchdown against last year’s conference champs.
In other words: I’m saying there was a chance, and judging by Lock’s pair of fairly spectacular passes on that game-winning drive, long shots just might be this team’s specialty.
Lock’s two longest completions came in the game that final drive, first a 34-yard rainbow to D.K. Metcalf along the sideline and then a 29-yard strike to rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba for an absolutely incredible touchdown catch. When Julian Love was ruled to have picked off Jalen Hurts’ throw to the sideline with less than 10 seconds left, I felt pretty silly for thinking at halftime how weird it was to watch a totally boring Seahawks game.
