ESPN's Mike Greenberg said that Russell Wilson "looks terrible." It's what happened next that shows not just how sports-media has changed, but why.
On Monday, I presented my thesis that Russell Wilson’s proficiency as a quarterback is largely independent of the head coach he plays for and the offense he plays in. I supported this with some fairly rudimentary stats and a good decade of watching him play.
Mike Greenberg trusted a couple of different sources: his eyes. He came away with more acidic assessment, which he offered on ESPN’s “Get Up!”
“Russell Wilson looks the worst I’ve ever seen him look,” Greenberg said.
I disagree with this, but I promise you, I’m not going to spend the next 6 to 7 minutes of your time explaining why I think he’s wrong. I’m going to spend the next 6 to 7 minutes explaining how Greenberg’s opinion – or more specifically, the promotion of it – explains not just the way sports media is changing, but why.
