Russell Wilson could use some new writers
Looking at Russ's words the past week I got the distinct sense that Seattle's former quarterback just doesn’t recognize his current reality, and I'm here to help.
Russell Wilson needs a new script.
This first occurred to me last week when I saw clips of his interview with Brandon Marshall for “I Am Athlete.” It’s a super-serious conversation, as indicated by the active fireplace over Wilson’s left shoulder, and the fact that both men are leaning forward in their chairs, elbows on knees. Marshall has just questioned whether – in fact – Wilson could return to Denver.
“For me it’s about winning,” Wilson said. “About winning. Over the next five years, I want to win two. I want to feel the chill of that trophy again.”
That worked two, three years ago when Wilson was chafing because he felt restrained by Pete Carroll’s offense and was impatient over the distinct lack of recent playoff victories.
But now? When the Broncos have decided to absorb a knee-buckling $85 million in salary-cap costs in order to let him go? It comes off somewhere between painfully tone deaf and hopelessly delusional. Russ needs some new writers, man, and I’m here to help.
