Scared money don't make none
This is a move that tells all the players on the Seahawks roster that the front office believes in them, which makes it the kind of move the Mariners front office has often balked at.
The Seahawks actually are doing the fan base a favor.
Not that anyone would choose to phrase it that way, of course, given how tone deaf and egotistical it would sound, but I do think it’s true. In a league where general managers often treat future draft picks like a college trust fund, the Seahawks have been very willing to trade long-term resources for short-term impact. They’re willing to go for it. Right now, and my first thought Monday after hearing the Seahawks had traded for a Grade A USDA prime game-wrecker of a defensive lineman was to contrast that with another pro sports franchise in town.
The Mariners traded Paul Sewald. The Seahawks traded for Leonard Williams. There’s a column in here somewhere, I just know it.
