Seahawks seem defenseless
The average NFL defense has forced just over four punts per game this season. Seattle has forced a total of five so far, a fact that is downright frightening for what lies ahead.
Dear Seattle,
We regret to inform you that your defense stinks. At least the NFL version does. I mean, it’s really bad. There are only four teams in the league who’ve allowed more points than the Seahawks have this season, but that doesn’t even get to the full extent of the problem because Seattle has actually dodged a number of bullets already this season. Remember those two fumbles forced at the goal line against Denver? Well, they not only saved Seattle from being winless, but they’ve helped the Seahawks become one of the better goal-line defenses in the league.
Through three games. Seattle’s opponents have scored a touchdown on only 38.5 percent of their red-zone possessions. That should be a good thing, right? The ol’ bend-but-don’t-break approach coming through. A sign of tenacity, resiliency, right? Except, I’m of the belief that it also represents some really good fortune in a relatively short time frame.
And to me, the single best indicator of Seattle’s issues on defense is that fact that the average NFL team is forcing just over 4 punts per game this season. The Seahawks have forced five punts so far. They’re just not stopping anybody, and not only am I surprised by this, but it is the single most alarming fact relating to this team’s future.
