Tanks for the offer, Seattle is better off winning
There are people bemoaning Seattle's victory over the Jets because it cost the Seahawks draft position. These are fine and well-meaning people who are -- sadly -- lost and deluded.
The Seahawks cost themselves a fair chunk of draft position by beating the Jets on Sunday, but they’re better off for it. I’ll explain why, but first a few nuts and bolts. OK. Where was I? Oh yeah, explaining how Seattle’s victory on Sunday was more than worth the five spots of first-round draft position it may wind up costing the Seahawks.
I understand that this statement will be met by stringent protest from a very specific corner of the team’s fan base. These are fine and well-meaning people, who deeply and earnestly think they have the team’s best interest at heart, but they do not. They are lost and deluded souls who have consumed so many mock drafts and studies of positional value that it has skewed their understanding of how a team actually becomes good in the NFL.
