Three offseason questions that will tell us just how much Pete Carroll dictated Seattle's decision-making these past 14 years.
The Seahawks did more than change coaches in January.
They moved on from the man whose presence had been the franchise’s single most defining characteristic since he was hired in 2010.
That’s not to say he was the only reason for Seattle’s success or that others weren’t pivotal, but Carroll loomed so large as not just the coach but the one who had final say over the football operation that it was difficult to tell if the team’s decision reflected organizational consensus or what he wanted.
Did Seattle routinely opt against drafting quarterbacks because that’s the way the draft fell or did that reflect Carroll’s desire to keep his starter from feeling threatened? Did Bobby Wagner come back because Carroll wanted him or because that’s what his defense needed? And just how much of Seattle’s fetish for drafting running backs was due to the coach?
