Two of my father's college friends decided to do something incredible nice for a young kid who loved sports and in the process made Seattle a beacon in my life.
Best four days of the sports year, but they’re obviously so much more than that!
My dad (by his own admission) was never a big "small talk" guy. As was the case for a lot of fathers and sons, sports were one of the main ways he and I connected and bonded, and I think hoops in particular helped grease the wheels on some of the bigger and more important/existential conversations we had over the years.
We made plenty of amazing sports trips along the way (the 1996 Olympics spring to mind), but nothing ever topped the tourney.
And needless to say, Dad was a huge fan of yours as well. Thanks for posting this, Danny.
My flight to SD got cancelled and thus the entire trip. Headed to Portland tomorrow to see Memphis and UCLA handle business 😎
